Mind are currently very excited about their new community project and what a wonderful project it is. Mind are offering drop-in sessions all around Tameside for people to come along to if they are feeling worried, stressed, anxious or ahve questions about mental health and well-being.
The drop-in session lasts fifteen minutes and trained volunteers are there to give you information or just to listen. The session is confidential. There is no appointment needed and you don’t need to be a current patient or member of any of the places to come along. It is a really wonderful service and new drop-in locations are being added later on in the year.
If you would like to attend a drop-in, you have to be aged 16 or over and live in the Tameside or Glossop area. The drop-ins are located at;
Davaar Medical Centre, Dukinfield – Every Wednesday, 2.00pm – 4.00pm (Starting from 11/07/12)
Hattersley Group Practice, Hattersley – Every other Thursday, 2.00pm – 4.00pm (starting from 19/0712)
Micklehurst Children’s Centre, Micklehurst – Starting in September 2012 – Further details to be confirmed.
Mind are also offering a Buddy Scheme, if you are nervous about going to an appointment or trying an activity on your own, you can be paired up with a Buddy who will meet you at your appointment whether it is the Doctor, Citizen’s Advice Bureau or a local health walk. The volunteer can help you check in at reception and sit with you until it is time to help you to alleviate any anxiety you might have. Before being assigned a Buddy you first have to attend one of Mind’s services such as the drop-ins or have been referred and assessed by one of Mind’s partner organisations and we need fourteen days notice prior to the appointment to give us time to make any necessary arrangements.
Mind is also looking for Community Engagement Volunteers to get involved with the project so if you are interested or just want more information on the project you can contact Judi, Community Engagement Co-ordinator on 0161 330 9223 or email@example.com.
